Joint Mobilisation

Gentle or firm repeated oscillation techniques performed to reduce joint pain or increase range of movement. Sometimes this may involve joint manipulation.

First4Therapy offer Physiotherapeutic Joint Mobilisation for our Clients. Clinical mobilisation techniques have been proven to relieve joint pain and stiffness, helping patients return to normal joint movement. We aim to ensure that patients do not feel pain or anxiety during their recovery.

What is Joint Mobilisation?

Joint Mobilisation is a musculoskeletal technique used to increase range of movement or reduce pain. Depending on the patient requirements, the process usually involves a gentle or firm set of repeated oscillations. Following assessment and diagnosis it may be used to help recovery in the particular area.

Joint Manipulation is also used at the end range of a joint, commonly performed to open a locked joint. This has to be performed with care, since repeated manipulations can cause hypermobility and neck manipulation can damage sensitive structures.

Other Techniques Include

  • Mobility Exercises (eg McKenzie exercises)
  • Muscle Energy Techniques
  • Mulligan mobilisation
  • Traction / Distraction Techniques

We understand that clients may be anxious with certain treatment methods. You’ll be pleased to know that First4Therapy offer the latest safe, gentle and effective joint mobilisation and pain relief treatment approaches that we would happily provide to our own family or friends.
